Coach School

From The Heart

February greets us with a gentle reminder of love, not just in the air but in the essence of what we do. Yesterday, as many celebrated LOVE in its myriad forms, I found myself reflecting on my own passion—not just for those I hold dear but for the vocation that fills my days with purpose, coaching my clients and mentoring my coaching colleagues.

After taking a significant break, stepping back into the coaching realm has rekindled a fire in my heart. I have always loved coaching since the first moment I discovered it. However, taking a break from it did me such a world of good. This pause wasn't just a hiatus; it was a period of renewal, a time to recharge my energy and reaffirm my commitment to this calling. Now that I am back, I am filled with a newfound vigor, a reinvigorated passion that I yearn to share with each of you. I actually have a lot to share. I am thrilled that you are along for the ride with me.

As with many coaches, coaching is more than a profession to me; it's a journey of the heart, a path where every interaction is an exchange of energy, a dance of ideas and aspirations. The break allowed me to see the immense value of what we do, not through the lens of routine, but with eyes wide open to the profound impact we have on lives and dreams.

My love for coaching and mentoring is the bedrock of my existence. It's a passion that grows with every session, every breakthrough, and every challenge overcome. This time away has only deepened my appreciation for our craft, reminding me that at the core of coaching is the heart—beating strongly with energy, compassion, and an unwavering belief in human potential.

As we continue to move forward into 2024, let's carry this energy with us, nurturing it not just in ourselves but in those we guide. Let's share our passion, our knowledge, and our hearts, as we empower others to embrace their own journeys of growth and transformation.

With a heart full of love for this profession and a renewed spirit, I am excited to embark on this year with you all. Together, let's make 2024 a testament to the power of coaching, and to the endless possibilities that await when we lead with love, passion, and purpose.

With all my heart,

Jille

P.S. Let's remember, our passion is our strength, our energy is our guide, and our love will see us through.

P.S.S. Here's to a year of renewed purpose and profound impact.

Industry News

Ethical Foundations in the Evolving Coaching Landscape

As the coaching industry continues to flourish, reaching new heights of recognition and influence, we find ourselves at a crossroads. The rapid expansion and diversity of coaching practices brings to light an area of utmost importance yet often overlooked: ethical considerations in coaching. This is why I am choosing to offer a free Ethics course every month. Not only to hold the space for learning about Ethics, but along the way my hope is to truly MASTER the nuances in our ICF CODE OF ETHICS, much like I did with the Core Competencies. I want to be a resource for the coaching world when it comes to Ethics in our profession and I know that the best way to learn something is to teach it.

Some of the topics we will be covering in our journey to mastering ethics are:

  1. Upholding Integrity and Confidentiality:

At the heart of coaching lies the trust between a coach and their client. It's imperative that we, as coaches, uphold the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality. This trust is the cornerstone of effective coaching relationships, enabling clients to open up and embrace vulnerability as a pathway to growth. I'm committed to reinforcing these principles in every session, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all my clients.
  2. Personalization with Ethical Boundaries:

While tailoring our coaching to meet individual needs is crucial, it's equally important to establish and respect ethical boundaries. Personalization should never compromise the coach-client dynamic or lead to dependency. This year, I aim to enhance my approach to personalization, ensuring it's always aligned with ethical guidelines and promotes autonomy and empowerment for my clients.
  3. Navigating the Digital Age with Ethical Foresight:

The rise of the metaverse, augmented reality, and data-driven approaches presents exciting opportunities but also ethical dilemmas. How do we ensure these technologies enhance rather than detract from the coaching experience? My focus is on integrating these tools judiciously, with a keen eye on maintaining the human essence of coaching, as we explore together in my upcoming Marketing with Love Course. We can’t lose the heart of coaching as technology takes a stronger grip. We must embrace it all, but also connect as individuals and with heart.
  4. Commitment to Continuous Ethical Education:

The landscape of coaching ethics is ever evolving. As such, our commitment to understanding and navigating these ethical waters must be unwavering. I pledge to continue my education in ethical coaching practices, sharing what I know with you and ensuring that my work not only adheres to current standards but also anticipates future ethical challenges.

As we chart this path forward, let be sure to anchor ourselves in the ethical principles that define our profession. When we do, we will ensure that the future of coaching remains bright, impactful, and, most importantly, grounded in the values of respect, integrity, and care for the individuals we are privileged to guide.

 Reflections of Gratitude

I am Grateful For: Knowing that coaching is WHO I am.

When I think of what I am most grateful for, I am struck by the overwhelming feeling of being absolutely blessed beyond belief to have found a profession that is not only what I do, but who I am. There is never a time when I can't be myself in the coaching world. And I can appreciate how rare that is.

However, not all coaches feel this way. Recently I saw a post on LinkedIn by a colleague who mentioned, "Coaching is not who we are, but what we do." While I can respect that his world view is different from mine and that his perspective is totally valid, my heart and experience tell a different story. This difference in views offers me an opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the coaching profession, not just as a vocation but as a core part of our identities.

Coaching, to me, is far more than a series of actions or methodologies we employ; it's a reflection of our deepest values and purpose. It's about the commitment we embody to facilitate growth, change, and empowerment, not only in our clients, but in our families and communities. Each coaching session is not just a task that we do, but an expression of who we are at our core – passionate facilitators of transformation.

I am immensely grateful for the ability coaching gives us to connect on a deeply human level, to see the potential in others, and to guide them towards realizing that potential. This connection is not just professional; it's personal, built on the foundation of who we are as individuals and how deeply we care about the well-being and success of those we coach.

The gratitude I feel for being able to impact lives through coaching is immeasurable. It's in the moments of breakthrough, when a client's face lights up with realization, that I find the essence of coaching intertwined with my very being. It’s also in the moment when I have the chance to be acknowledging and supportive of the client on their journey to their full potential. That’s who I really am. It's a reminder that coaching is not just what we do; it's an integral part of who we are.

In disagreement with my colleague, I believe that for many of us, our profession chooses us as much as we choose it. It's a calling that resonates with our desire to contribute, to make a difference, and to be of service. This calling goes beyond the boundaries of a job – it's a way of living, a path of continuous growth and learning, both for our clients and ourselves.

To all my fellow coaches, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your dedication and the profound impact you make. Your commitment to this calling – to not just do coaching but to embody its principles in every aspect of your lives – is what makes our profession truly remarkable. And if you are not there yet, keep going, it is just around the corner. Together, we don't just perform tasks; we live out our purpose, shaping a world where every individual has the support and encouragement to become their best selves.

As we continue on this journey, let's hold onto the gratitude we feel for being part of something much larger than ourselves. Let's celebrate not only what we do but who we are as coaches – catalysts for positive change, champions of human potential, and believers in the transformative power of coaching.

Coaching is not just what I do, but it is also who I am. And if this gives me a limited perspective, well, I’ll take it.

With Love,
Jille
