Leading with Light: Coaching Through Times of Uncertainty

Man....what a crazy time we are living in. Even my favorite joke about it is getting old (you know the one about how we would like to see a return to some “precedented times” as a play on the words “unprecedented times”)
In times of uncertainty, the world looks for anchors—people who can guide, inspire, and reassure. As coaches, we are uniquely positioned to serve as these beacons of stability and positivity. Each interaction we have, each session held, carries the potential to uplift and transform our world one person at a time.
Today, I want to reflect on how we, as coaches, can harness our unique skills to foster positivity and resilience and create an opportunity for the world to move in a more positive direction.
Empower through Empathy: At the heart of our coaching practice is empathy—the ability to truly understand and share the feelings of another. In a world that can often seem disconnected, our empathy can bridge divides and heal wounds. It's about more than understanding; it's about showing our clients and communities that their feelings are valid and that they're not alone in their experiences. Even if their information is inaccurate, their feelings are real.
Cultivate Resilience: As leaders in positivity, our task is to help others find their inner strength. This means encouraging clients to look beyond immediate challenges and focus on long-term growth. Resilience isn't about avoiding difficulties but learning to navigate them with grace. We can guide our clients to develop strategies that transform obstacles into opportunities so that they understand their own personal power and their ability to create positive change.
Promote Mindful Leadership: In our roles, we often encourage proactive rather than reactive responses. This mindfulness in leadership helps those we guide to consider their actions and their broader impacts carefully. By promoting thoughtful decision-making, we contribute to a more reflective, conscious approach to life and work.
Encourage Connection: Social bonds are crucial in maintaining empathy towards others, personal mental health and a positive outlook for us all. We can support our clients to remember the importance of building and maintaining these connections, not just for personal benefit but as a way to foster community support. Through strengthening networks, we enhance our collective ability to thrive even in adversity. When was the last time you connected in person with other coaches, potential clients and others who are determined to build a healthy positive life in a healthy positive world?
Inspire Action and Accountability: As coaches, we inspire not just thought but action. It's one thing to dream of a better world; it's another to take the steps needed to create it. We can lead by example, showing how taking small, consistent actions can lead to significant changes. We can hold our clients accountable, not just to their goals but to the role they play in shaping a positive, equitable society.
Promote Informed Decision-Making: In our quest to lead with positivity, it's crucial that we stay informed about the world around us. This knowledge empowers us to ask the right questions that challenge our clients to be informed and positive as well. Being well-informed enhances our ability to think critically and encourages our clients to approach their decisions with a well-rounded perspective. This practice not only deepens their understanding but also equips them to engage more effectively with the challenges they face.
This approach to coaching doesn't just equip our clients with the tools to navigate their personal and professional lives; it also empowers them to contribute positively to the world around them. Each session is an opportunity to instill hope, to encourage compassion, and to remind others of the power of human potential. Most of all it is an opportunity to guide our clients to understand their true nature and to make choices based on their own divinity.
As we continue to navigate complex global events, let's commit to being leaders of positivity. Let’s use our skills to not only guide but to inspire, not only to support but to learn, and not only to support but to celebrate the human spirit in all its resilience.
